ePBG on GeM: the electronic performance bank guarantee

ePBG (Electronic performance bank guarantee). An electronic performance bank guarantee, issued through the banks' SFMS network. On GeM it is the performance security the winning seller furnishes after award, at a percentage the buyer sets in the bid.

Checked against its sources on 23 September 2026.

Where it appears

In the ePBG detail of a GeM bid document: whether it is required, the percentage, an advisory bank and the duration. We saw 5% on a GeM bid published in August 2026. The figure is the buyer's choice within the performance security rules, which since January 2024 are 3% to 5% of contract value for goods and services.

We have not found a current GeM source stating the permitted ePBG range, so we do not quote one. Read the number off the bid you are looking at.

What it means for a bidder

It is posted by the winner only, after award, not with the bid. It ties up bank limits for the contract term plus whatever period the bid specifies, so a firm bidding several GeM contracts at once should add the ePBGs up before it wins them all.
