Mechanical, fabrication and machining tenders in India: what is open and who buys

Valves, pumps, gearboxes, hydraulics, castings, forgings and work to drawing. On 4 October 2026, 1,887 mechanical, fabrication and machining tenders were open on the portals ScanX reads, 1,049 of them closing within a week.

Where it is published

Where mechanical, fabrication and machining tenders appear

GeM item lists and bid documents, shipyards, ordnance units, research labs.

Mechanical and machined parts are where keyword search fails most often. GeM cuts titles at 99 characters, and many bids are titled only with a stores code, so the words that matter are in the item list or the document.

Mechanical, fabrication and machining: sources, buyers and rules
Where it is publishedGeM above all, then the defence PSU portal, buyers' own tender sites and Defence eProcurement.
Typical buyersShipyards, dockyards, ordnance units, research laboratories, heavy engineering PSUs.
What a rules file coversValves, pumps, gearboxes and reducers, fittings, flanges and fasteners, hydraulics and pneumatics, castings, forgings and machining to drawing.
What the document addsScanX reads GeM's full item list past the title limit, and reads the document first when a title is only codes. This is also where Worth a look earns its keep, by finding work to drawing no keyword named.

Open means a closing date after 4 October 2026 at 02:13 IST. Published since 22 Sept counts only the portals that see every new tender. A tender listed on two portals appears under each, and once in the total.

How each portal is read

GeM
GeM's whole bid feed, read hourly since 22 September 2026. Bids published before then are held in full only for a few departments, so counts of older bids understate the market.
CPPP
A sample: about 250 tenders a weekday from the newest pages of a listing that carried about 31,000 live tenders when counted on 20 August 2026.
Defence eProcurement
Read by closing date: a tender is held in its last seven days. Counted in Open now only.
CPWD eTender
Read hourly since 8 September 2026, EMD included. CPWD gives no publication date, so the hour ScanX first read a tender stands in for one.
Buyers' own tender sites
Buyers that publish on their own sites rather than the national portals. Each site's public tender list is read whole, from the day its reader was added in September 2026. Where a site gives no publication date, the hour ScanX first read a tender stands in.
Defence PSU eProcurement
Seven defence PSUs on one NIC system, read by closing date two weeks ahead. Counted in Open now only.
CPPP state tenders
A sample: the first 50 tenders of each closing day, a week ahead. Read by closing date, so counted in Open now only.
CPPP ePublishing
The first page of the ePublishing listing, every run.

Buyers with the most open tenders

As each portal names the buyer. GeM names the department, Defence eProcurement the head of the unit chain. Buyers read from their own tender sites are counted in the totals, not ranked here.

Deadlines and deposits

Closing this week
1,049 of the 1,887 open tenders close within seven days of 4 October 2026.
Time to bid
Half the 1,651 tenders published since 22 September 2026 gave 11 days or fewer between publication and closing.
EMD
53 open tenders state EMD in the listing, all on CPWD and one buyer's own site, the only listings that carry it. 8 ask none, and the median of the rest is Rs 12,604.

Method

How these figures were counted

Measured 4 October 2026 at 02:13 IST from the store the collector writes every hour. This page is rebuilt from a new snapshot, and every figure on it moves with the next one.

Counted by title
Titles that mention valves, pumps and pump sets, gearboxes, reducers and reduction gears, hydraulics and hydraulic systems, pneumatics, actuators, air and high pressure compressors, castings, forgings, machining, fabrication, work as per drawing, flanges, fasteners, couplings, impellers, heat exchangers or pressure vessels. Titles that also mention VRLA batteries, medical or hand pumps, tyre valves, fuel injection pumps, vehicles, vehicle makes or MT spares, trucks, tractors, motorcycles or drones are left out.
The exact pattern

PostgreSQL regular expressions, matched without regard to case. \m and \M mark the start and end of a word.

Open now
A closing date after the moment of measurement, on every portal ScanX reads. CPPP state tenders, Defence eProcurement and Defence PSU eProcurement are read by closing date, so a tender there is held only in its last week or two, and their open counts are the tenders closing soonest.
Published since 22 September 2026
Only portals that see every new tender count: GeM, CPPP, CPPP ePublishing, CPWD eTender and buyers' own tender sites. The window starts on 22 September 2026, the day ScanX began reading GeM's whole feed, and will grow to 90 days as the store does. CPPP's figure is a sample, as its note above says.
Days to close
From the publication date to the closing date as last read, so an extension already published counts. CPWD and some buyers' own sites publish no date, so the hour ScanX first read a tender stands in.
Counted once
A procurement listed on two portals counts once in every total, joined on its reference number with case, spacing and punctuation removed. GeM reverse auctions that follow an earlier bid are left out, because only that bid's qualified bidders may take part.
Not read
These are counts of what ScanX reads, not of every tender in India. ScanX does not read IREPS, municipal portals or state portals outside GePNIC, and on GeM it reads the listing, not every bid document.
